10th May - Members of the Rotary Club of Stourport on Severn visited Newtown

Newtown Rotary welcomed members of the Stourport on Severn Rotary club who are walking the length of the Severn way from Plynlimon to Bristol.

The objective of the club is to walk the Severn Way in stages as a relay over a 16 day period to raise money for charity. These charities include shelterBox, Muscular Dystrophy and a local charity called Headway. Details of the walk can be found at www.severnwaywalk.co.uk.

Rotarians and members of the public can walk one or more stages, some of the stages are broken down into sub stages so you can walk as little or as far as you would like.

The Severn is the longest river in the British Isles and passes through some beautiful countryside and through lovely villages, town and cities. The walk is approximately 230 miles from Plynlimon in Central Wales to the centre of Bristol.

President John Harries welcomed President David Rees of the Stourport club to the meeting. The visiting members are spending each night in a shelterBox tent. President David Rees of Stourport on Severn Rotary wished to thank members of the club and especially Rtn Richard Bonfield on assisting with the organisation of the walk in the Upper Reaches.
